PTFE / Teflon

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a fluorinated polymer (CF2-CF2)n that is best known by the brand name Teflon® by DuPont Co.  PTFE has an extremely low coefficient of friction, which gives its non-stick characteristics and makes it ideal for applications where two surfaces must slide against each other. Due to its carbon-fluorine bonds, it is chemically inert to most substances. It is thermally stable, has excellent electrical insulating properties, and can operate at temperatures up to 500 °F.

Virgin Grade PTFE
Virgin Grade PTFE materials, such as Teflon®, have higher mechanical properties and purity compared to Mechanical Grade PTFE, which is a blend of various brands. All Seals offers a variety of PTFE materials, including Teflon®. If material certifications and traceability are needed, Teflon®specialty grades are available.

Applications

  • Corrosion-resistant gaskets, seals o-rings and insulators in industries such as semiconductors, chemicals and aerospace
  • Parts with a high degree of slipperiness
